Chevy Silverado, Chevy Suburban, GMC Sierra Front Drive Shaft

Front shaft for Chevy trucks with independent front suspension (IFS). This shaft will fit nearly any GM or Chevy application which uses a factory style flat flange on the transfer case and a factory size 3R series u-joint on the front axle. This includes most Chevy Silverado, Chevy Suburban, GMC Sierra, 1500, and 2500 trucks. Chevy started switching to this type of shaft around 1995. Around 2015 they switched from the 3R series joint at the axle to a 1350 series. If your truck is from the 1995 to around 2015 this shaft should fit, as long as you have the splined female sleeve at the front of the transfer case and a 3R series yoke at your IFS differential. The 3R series yoke can be identified by it's lack of centering tabs, instead of centering tabs on the yoke the joint centers using c-clip style snap rings on the inside of the yoke.

If you have an older solid axle truck you will need something like this instead. If you have something different, have converted your formerly IFS truck to a solid axle, have more than a few inches of lift, have a shackle reversal, or currently have any problems due to angle or strength of your existing shaft give us a call. 801-737-0757

This shaft is a double cardan (aka CV) shaft. The main reason to convert from the stock style shaft to the double cardan shaft is due to increased drive shaft angles caused by lifting your truck. The double cardan shaft will run more smoothly at these increased angles. Chevy Silverado, Chevy suburban, and GMC Sierra front drive shaft replacement is a good idea for almost any truck that is still running a stock drive shaft. Chevy stock front drive shafts used fairly low grade components. Add a lift, bigger tires, and years of wear and tear and the result could be badly worn or even worse a broken stock drive shaft. Tom Wood's drive shafts are built using only the highest quality components. Key features listed below.

  • 2" diameter 0.120" wall tube.

  • Greaseable CV center ball.
  • Best of all every shaft is custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.

Chevy front drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why we require a length measurement before building the shaft. Measure from the end of the output sleeve of the transfer case to the edge of the yoke at the differential (axle) as shown in the photo.
