Jeep WK Double Cardan Rear Drive Shaft

The double cardan shaft is what you need if your Jeep Grand Cherokee WK is lifted and you are having rear drive shaft vibrations as a result.

The 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee came with a poorly designed stock rear drive shaft. The large diameter aluminum shaft is vulnerable to rock damage. The plastic boot is easy to tear. Worst of all, the non-greaseable universal joints are not replaceable, someone had the great idea to permanently stake them into the shaft. The only way to replace the joint is to replace the entire shaft. Ours is different, ours is made from steel. The Tom Wood's WK rear drive shaft comes with joints that are not only greaseable but are also replaceable. This shaft will also fit an XK Commander.

Key product features

  • Double cardan design for smooth operation on lifted Jeeps.
  • 2.5" diameter 0.083" wall USA made DOM steel tube.
  • Forged slip yoke.
  • Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or non-greaseable joints. All joints are replaceable and held in place with retaining clips.
  • Best of all every shaft is custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.

Jeep WK rear drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why we require a length measurement before building the shaft. Measuring is simple and easy. Just measure the length of the stock shaft as shown in the photo above. It is important that you measure this with the stock shaft still installed in the jeep.

If your Jeep is is not lifted at all or if it is not lifted more than 2-3 inches you do not need a double cardan shaft. Instead you should consider our conventional rear drive shaft.

XK Double-cardened drive shaft review

This drive shaft looks very Stout and well built. I was unsure if it would fit perfectly on my Jeep Commander 5.7 hemi but it did quick and easy bolt on. Much better than the stock crappy units that came with the Jeep. The new joints are greasable and replaceable definitely a plus. Highly recommended it.

I had some driveline vibes and this fixed it! The non replaceable factory u joints were clearly worn out. Fastest shipping in all the land! This is my 2nd woody with same good results

Life saver

I could not be more pleased with this product as well as the Tom Woods staff that helped me through the whole process. I started getting a squeak coming from my rear driveshaft ujoint and I spent a few weeks trying to figure out my best option. I contacted my local custom driveshaft shops and they all told me that my Jeep wouldn't take a custom steel driveshaft and it would almost guarantee driveline vibrations. They all told me I had no other option but to buy a brand new OEM aluminum ds for my 3.0L. I really didn't want to spend $1500 (CAD) on the same piece of junk driveshaft that Chrysler put in there in the first place with the staked in ujoints. After consulting the Jeep forums, I was led here. I instantly called Tom Woods and spoke with damn near everyone in that shop asking them every silly question I could think of to make sure I was buying the right product. These guys knew their stuff and left be buying this driveshaft with confidence. I really wanted to make sure I got the right product from the right guys because I lived in the great white north and I really didn't want to pay the cost of shipping twice to send it back. Once I got it the install was easy and the shaft drive so smooth! I couldn't have been happier. Best part was that after taxes, shipping and duty I still paid less then an OEM shaft or any other custom local shop. These guys are awesome and I will be gladly buying from them again when my front ds decides to sh*t the bed.

Received my driveshaft and inspected it. It was very nicely built. Bolted in no problem. Took away the weird whirring noise I was having on deceleration thank goodness. Still have vibrations on acceleration but that sounds common with the Jeep Commander 4 inch superlift. Thank you Woods peeps! P.S. can I get a bunch more of those stickers? :).
